There was a time in the state of West Bengal when the common people were confounded as they were deceived in their daily life and did not have the knowledge as to how to combat these unfair businessmen, traders, lawyers, doctors, other professionals and service providers, who were very much united in their common interest of deceitful gains. Just at this juncture, some consumer activists gathered together and decided to work under one umbrella with the object to unite the consumers on common interest and thus the FCAWB was formed and started its auspicious journey on 1st April 1990.
FCAWB is a Registered Federating Body under the Societies Registration Act and covers all the districts of West Bengal. It has 200 affiliated registered organizations. Each registered organization consists of on and average 200 individual member volunteers. So under one umbrella of FCAWB nearly 40,000 member volunteers are working spreading all over West Bengal. It has a huge network which is the asset of FCAWB. Perhaps rarest of rare of the voluntary movement in India in the field of Consumer Protection. FCAWB is the member of various Ministries to the Govt. of India in the advisory capacity.
